The waterfalls of Dimmosari, Nidri, Lefkada

We took a short drive from the villa to have a look at the Dimmosari waterfall.  What a wet and fertile valley we found!  The walk up to the waterfall is along a path for most of the way, but there is a bit of rock scrambling at some points, especially if you want to get the best photo angles.  A sturdy pair of shoes is recommended!  There is a cafe at the start of the walk serving refreshments and some snacks.  We were there in May and it was open along with a wooden stand selling various local produce and especially the divine Lefkadian Thyme honey.

The surroundings are incredibly green and fresh.  I imagine on a sizzling hot August day, this would be a refreshing oasis to spend a couple of hours.

Nature is all around and the sounds of the gently moving leaves is almost drowned out by enthusiastic bull frogs looking for a mate.  We couldn’t see any, but they were definitely there!  The sound of water is musical,  from the tinkling streams of water over rocks to the crashing crescendo of the grand finale – the big waterfall at the end.

Here are my impressions in photos:

As we start our walk up to the waterfalls, this is the view looking back towards Nidri.

The first sign of water. Excess water runs along a channel by the side of the path.

Here the bull frogs are deafening, but carefully camouflaged.

Little waterfalls are everywhere...

When we see this one we wonder, 'Is this it?'

When you get to this rock, keep going! There is a treat in store just around the corner...

And there it is! The photo doesn't do it justice - it must be about 6 metres high. Absolutely beautiful!

Up close and personal with the big waterfall. Well worth the climb!

We visited the Dimmosari waterfalls in May 2015.  The waterfalls can be found by turning off the main road through Nidri.  There is a signpost, but drive slowly or you will miss it.  The Dimmosari waterfalls are less than a 10 minute drive from the Violitsis Villas – you can read more about our stay in Lefkada here.
